Procedure
Warning: Be sure to back up data on the BlackBerry device before clearing any database. Information will be permanently lost otherwise.

Step 1

To clear the Messages database, complete one of the following options:
Option 1

To clear the Messages database using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, complete the following steps:

1. Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer.
2. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
3. Double-click Backup and Restore, then click Advanced.
4. From the list of Device Databases, select the appropriate database. For Email Messages, select Messages.
5. Click Clear.
6. In the Warning window, click OK.
7. Send a new message to the BlackBerry device. New messages now appear in the Messages screen.

Option 2

Clear the BlackBerry device using the Wipe Handheld option. For more information, see KB02318.

Warning: This task will delete all data on the BlackBerry device. Back up all data prior to performing this option.

Step 2

Register the BlackBerry device on the wireless network and receive new service books.

To register the BlackBerry device on the wireless network and receive new service books, complete the following steps:

1. Perform a Register Now. For more information, see KB00510.
2. Send new service books for the BlackBerry® Internet Service account. For more information, see KB02830.
